the hiatus from the blogosphere was absolutely not of my own will, but rather due to the unpredictable events life orchestrates from time to time. As it turns out, I actually missed it! Donc, me voile à nouveau...
Now, back to things of importance. If you have not yet heard Paris is ambitiously striving for a révolution numérique and will soon become one of the world's most wired capitals. The plan is to balnket the city with a free wireless network operated by private companies.
Bertrand Delanoe, the city's mayor told the press "We will act fast and firmly... to create the most favorable conditions for Paris. It is a decisive tool for international competition and thus important for the city." Rumor has it that the system will be up and running by the end of next year.
The city also plans to open Espaces publics Numériques in numerous arrondissements, which will allow people to use computers and take classes on computing and Internet technology. The goal is to make Paris one of the top digital cities on earth in the next decade, a move that could help the city stay competitive in the global labor market.
Have you noticed how the parisians always want a revolution?
